What this actually is
A wash removes what's loose. Decontamination removes what has bonded to the paint: iron fallout from your own brake dust, tar picked up off I-5, and the industrial grit that makes a panel feel rough under your hand.
We use two buckets, grit guards and a pH-neutral soap. The iron comes off chemically, the tar comes off with a solvent, and we clay every painted panel. Protection goes on last, once the paint is properly clean, because sealing a contaminated panel locks that contamination in for six months.

Pre-rinse and foam
Snow foam sits on the car and lifts grit before a mitt touches the paint. Most wash swirls start here.
Contact wash
Two-bucket method, a separate mitt for the lower panels, wheels done with their own tools.
Decontaminate
Iron remover, tar solvent, then clay over every painted panel and the glass.
Dry and seal
Filtered air to dry, then a six-month sealant on paint, exterior trim and wheel faces.
